On this day in music history…

In 1997, The Beatles won the Grammy Awards for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Music Video, Short Form for “Free as a Bird.” The song had originally come to Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr in the form of a demo tape. “Free as a Bird” was one of the unfinished John Lennon songs that Yoko Ono had chosen for his former bandmates to finish.

In 2002, the Concerts for Artists’ Rights took place at four different venues in Los Angeles to raise money for the Recording Artists Coalition. Among the participating artists were the Eagles, Billy Joel, John Fogerty, Stevie Nicks, Weezer, No Doubt, Eddie Vedder, and others.
