On this day in music history…

In 1976, Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michaels went on camera to offer The Beatles $3,000 to reunite on SNL. Little did anyone know, John Lennon and Paul McCartney were watching the broadcast at Lennon’s New York apartment. They briefly considered showing up at the NBC studio, but they ultimately decided against it.

In 1999, The Steve Miller Band was supposed to play at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. Miller was battling laryngitis, and on the day of the show, Miller’s manager told venue officials that he couldn’t sing because of the illness. The concert was canceled, and refunds were offered to those who purchased tickets.
