On this day in music history…
In 1975, Jefferson Starship performed for a crowd of over 6,700 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. The band’s set list included material from their debut album, Dragon Fly (which had been released six months earlier), as well as classics from the Jefferson Airplane catalog. Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen were the opening act. Earlier that year, they had released their self-titled album, which was charting at number 93 at the time of the concert.
In 1976, Ramones released their groundbreaking self-titled debut album. Despite receiving positive reviews, the album only peaked at number 111 on the chart. Ramones is often cited as one of the greatest punk albums of all time.
