On this day in music history…

In 1970, Paul McCartney released his debut solo album, McCartney. The project was largely completed by McCartney himself; he wrote and produced the entire album, played all of the instruments, and sang all of the vocal parts with the exception of some harmony vocals that were recorded by his wife Linda. McCartney went on to top the U.S. chart, and it reached number 2 in McCartney’s native U.K.

In 1991, Nirvana played at the OK Hotel in Seattle. It was at this show that the band performed “Smells Like Teen Spirit” for the first time. The song would be released as a single five months later.
