In 1966, The Rolling Stones began recording “Paint It Black” at RCA Studios in Los Angeles. The band recorded the song over the course of four days. It was released a couple months later, and went to number 1 in both the U.S. and the U.K.
In 1982, The Go-Go’s took the top spot on the albums chart with their debut album, Beauty and the Beat, making them the first all-female rock band to go to number 1. Beauty and the Beat stayed at the top of the chart for six weeks, which remains the longest run a female group has had at number 1.
