On this day in music history…

In 1968, Johnny Cash performed two concerts at Folsom State Prison in Folsom, California. The first performance took place at 9:40 a.m., and the second followed at 12:40 p.m. The concerts were recorded for a live album, and four months later, At Folsom Prison was released.

In 1973, Eric Clapton performed two concerts at the Rainbow Theatre in London. The shows were a live comeback for Clapton; besides the Concert for Bangladesh, he hadn’t played in concert in a year and a half. The group of musicians backing Clapton included Pete Townshend, Ronnie Wood, Steve Winwood, and others. Eight months later, the live album Eric Clapton’s Rainbow Concert was released.
