On this day in music history…

In 1953, Soviet Union Premier Joseph Stalin passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage. At the time, the United States military had several Morse code operators working in West Germany, intercepting messages from the Soviets, and the U.S. learned of Stalin’s death from an intercepted transmission. The Morse code operator who allegedly intercepted and transcribed this transmission from the Soviets was U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant John Cash (who would release his debut album four years later as Johnny Cash). However, some say that Cash’s story about this event may have been exaggerated.

In 2002, the reality television series The Osbournes premiered on MTV. The show followed singer Ozzy Osbourne, his wife Sharon, and two of their children, Kelly and Jack, in their supposed everyday lives. The program was extremely popular and ran for four seasons.
