On this day in music history…
–In 1976, Blue Öyster Cult released their fourth studio album, titled Agents of Fortune. It remains the highest-charting album in their catalog, peaking at number 29. The album also contains their most successful single, “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper,” which peaked at number 12 on the chart. Agents of Fortune also remains Blue Öyster Cult’s only studio album ever to go platinum; it was certified as such by the RIAA a couple years after its release.
–In 1996, Soundgarden released their fifth studio album, titled Down on the Upside. The band was coming off of their major success the previous year with Superunknown, which had topped the albums chart and was supported with an international tour. Down on the Upside debuted in the runner-up spot on the chart, where it stayed for one week. This would end up being Soundgarden’s last album before they broke up the following year. They’d reunite in 2010 and release one more studio album.
