THOMPSONVILLE, Ill. (WJPF) – The Thompsonville school district has released a statement following the tragic loss of a student.

In a statement released on May 7 , Superintendent Lindsay Robinson notified families in Thompsonville that a Sophomore had passed away in an accident. The student has been identified as 16 year old Maycee Ellis. She was involved in a two vehicle crash Thursday afternoon.

Grief counselors will be at the school today (May 8) to help support students and staff.

Due to safety concerns at the accident site, the sheriff’s office has asked community members not to leave items there. Flowers, notes and other memorial items may be left at the student’s crossing guard location on campus.
