In 1969, The Chicago Transit Authority’s self-titled debut album was released. The album peaked at number 17 on the chart, and it stayed on the chart for a total of 171 weeks. After being threatened with a lawsuit by the Chicago Transit Authority—the mass transit company in the city of Chicago—the band changed their name to Chicago.
In 1978, the Michael A. Alonzo film FM hit theaters. The movie included appearances by Linda Rondstadt, Jimmy Buffett, Tom Petty, and REO Speedwagon. The FM soundtrack peaked at number 5 on the albums chart, and the film’s theme song, “FM (No Static at All)” by Steely Dan, peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100.
