On this day in music history…

In 1987, Huey Lewis & The News performed for a near-capacity crowd of over 9,700 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. Seven months earlier, the band had released their Fore! album, which was charting at number 13 at the time of the concert. Robert Cray was the opening act.
 

 
In 1994, The Smashing Pumpkins performed for a crowd of over 4,300 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. Eight months earlier, the band had released their Siamese Dream album, which was charting at number 19 at the time of the concert. Red Red Meat was the opening act.
