Franklin County is set to pay off a major investment — and that means a tax break could be on the way.
The county is preparing to eliminate the one-cent sales tax that was approved by voters back in 2019 to fund construction of the new 18-million-dollar courthouse.
The tax was designed to remain in place until the project was paid off, or for up to 15 years — whichever came first.
County leaders will hold a special meeting April 6th at 6 p.m. at the courthouse to vote on an ordinance to officially end that tax.
If approved, the one-cent sales tax would be eliminated starting July 1st.
