On this day in music history…
In 1979, Dire Straits kicked off their first North American tour at the Paradise Theater in Boston. Throughout the tour, the band often played two shows per day.
In 1990, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers performed for a crowd of about 5,800 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. During the group’s performance of “Free Fallin’,” one concertgoer made his way onto the stage in an attempt to dance alongside Petty; he was quickly escorted off the stage by security. At the time of the show, Petty was at number 8 on the albums chart with his debut solo release, Full Moon Fever. Lenny Kravitz was the opening act.
