In 1974, Kiss released their self-titled debut album on the Casablanca label. The album went on to peak at number 87 on the chart. Casablanca president Neil Bogart was a big defender of the group, despite opposition from Casablanca’s parent company Warner Brothers. Later that year, Kiss released their second album, Hotter Than Hell. By that point Casablanca and Warner Brothers had severed ties, and Hotter Than Hell was even less successful than the debut album.
In 1998, the 12th episode of the first season of South Park aired on Comedy Central. Titled “Mecha-Streisand,” the episode is about Cartman finding a triangle with indigenous origins on an archeological field trip. The triangle eventually ends up in the hands of Barbra Streisand, and she somehow uses it to turn herself into a mechanical dinosaur. The characters then call on Cure frontman Robert Smith for help. Smith played himself in the episode.
