On this day in music history…

In 1972, an up-and-coming 22-year-old singer-songwriter performed on a television program called The Session, taped at the WSIU-TV studio in Carbondale, Illinois. He and his backing band played a handful of songs on the TV show. The following year, this singer-songwriter would release his Piano Man album. That up-and-coming musician was Billy Joel.
