On this day in music history…

In 1959, in the early morning hours, a Beechcraft Bonanza airplane carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. Richardson (better known as The Big Bopper) crashed in an Iowa cornfield. Mere hours earlier, the musicians had finished a show at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. Holly, Valens, Richardson, and pilot Roger Peterson were all killed instantly in the crash. A tragic day that would become known as “The Day The Music Died”, later popularized by Don McLean in “American Pie”.

In 1986, The Firm released their second studio album, Mean Business. Shortly after the album’s release, band members Paul Rodgers, Jimmy Page, Tony Franklin, and Chris Slade went their separate ways, disbanding the group.
