Researchers at Southern Illinois University Carbondale have received a more than 523-thousand-dollar federal grant to study new, energy-efficient cooling technology.

The three-year project is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and will explore solid-state materials that could cool buildings using less electricity than traditional air-conditioning systems.
