On this day in music history…
In 1980, Prince made his national television debut on NBC. On The Midnight Special, he performed “I Wanna Be Your Lover” and “Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?,” the first two singles from his self-titled album. “I Wanna Be Your Lover” would go on to be Prince’s first big hit, peaking at number 11 on the singles chart.
In 2016, on his 69th birthday, David Bowie released his 26th studio album, Blackstar. Two days later, Bowie passed away, generating even more interest in the new album. Blackstar debuted at number 1 in the U.S. and the U.K., and it hit the top spot in over twenty other countries.
