On this day in music history…

In 1971, George Harrison topped the U.S. albums chart with All Things Must Pass, his third solo album. It would stay at number 1 for seven weeks. The album also topped the charts in over 10 other countries, including Harrison’s native U.K.

In 1993, Elton John set the record for consecutive years charting on the Billboard Hot 100. John’s single “The Last Song” was at number 24 on the chart, marking his 24th consecutive year with a song on the Hot 100. John’s streak continued through 2000, and he remains the record-holder with 31 years.
