On this day in music history…

In 1999, George Harrison was attacked at Friar Park, his estate in Oxfordshire, England. The perpetrator, a 34-year-old schizophrenic man, broke into Harrison’s home and used a seven-inch knife in the attack. Harrison was stabbed over 40 times. As a result of the stabbing, Harrison suffered a punctured lung, and it was later revealed that the attacker’s knife had narrowly missed Harrison’s heart.

In 2002, Diana Ross was arrested for driving under the influence in Tuscon, Arizona, after her vehicle was seen swerving on the road. Ross submitted to a breathalyzer test, which showed her blood-alcohol level to be .20 percent; Arizona’s legal limit was .08 percent. This resulted in a citation for Extreme DUI. Ross was eventually sentenced to attend 36 hours of counseling and pay over $800 in fines.
