On this day in music history…
In 1984, an all-star cast of music stars participated in a historic recording session at Sarm West Studios in London. The song that was being recorded had been written by Boomtown Rats frontman Bob Geldof and Ultravox frontman Midge Ure. Ure was also responsible for producing the record. The single was finished in 24 hours and released the following week. The song was “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid, and the funds raised went to Ethiopian famine relief.
In 1997, Colin Blunstone was performing a solo concert at The Jazz Café in London. At one point, much to the delight of the attendees, Blunstone was joined on stage by Rod Argent, Paul Atkinson, Chris White, and Hugh Grundy—a reunion of the classic lineup of The Zombies. They played two songs: “She’s Not There” and “Time of the Season.”
