Metropolis Police arrested a 36-year-old man after a disturbance call on Sunday in the 800 block of Parkview.

Officers say Manuel Chest was accused of hitting an 8-year-old child with a belt. When the child’s mother tried to intervene, police say she was also struck. The two eventually escaped outside, and officers reported seeing welts on the child’s legs and backside.

Chest is also accused of shoving the mother during the incident. He was taken into custody and charged with domestic battery, and is now being held at the Massac County Detention Center.
