Pedestrian Killed in Jackson County Crash

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly crash that happened Tuesday evening on Business Highway 13.

According to the sheriff’s office, a man driving a black 2019 Toyota Tundra was traveling southbound when he struck a pedestrian, identified as Jennifer Perez, who was walking in the same lane near the Union Pacific Railroad underpass.

An off-duty Jackson County deputy was the first to arrive at the scene and, along with a passing motorist, provided aid until an ambulance arrived.

Perez was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after, according to officials.

The crash remains under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
