On this day in music history…

In 1978, John Denver performed for a crowd of about 10,700 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. Denver played for two hours, kicking off the concert with “Welcome to My Morning.” The final song of the night was “Sunshine.” Denver did not perform an encore.
 

 
In 1984, Prince & The Revolution kicked off their Purple Rain Tour at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The first seven dates of the tour were in Detroit, and every one of those shows was sold out. They performed to capacity crowds for most of the tour, which lasted through the following April.
