Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has declared an agricultural trade crisis in the state.
Pritzker signed an executive order Wednesday at a farm in Taylorville, saying the move is meant to support farmers who’ve been struggling under what he calls “unfair federal trade policies.”
The governor accused the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress of putting Illinois farmers “under attack,” citing rising costs, shrinking export opportunities, and instability in the agricultural market.
The executive order directs state agencies to coordinate relief efforts and explore ways to strengthen local markets and farm support programs.
Pritzker says his goal is to ensure that Illinois farmers—who are vital to the state’s economy—have the backing they need during what he calls a growing trade crisis.
