In 1984, Deep Purple released their 11th studio album, Perfect Strangers. It was Deep Purple’s first studio album in nine years, and it featured a reunion of the acclaimed Mark II lineup of the band. Perfect Strangers peaked at number 17 in the U.S. and number 5 in Deep Purple’s native U.K. The album’s release was followed by a massively successful world tour.

 

 
 
In 1984, Frankie Goes To Hollywood released their debut album, Welcome to the Pleasuredome. The album peaked at number 33 on the U.S. chart. In the band’s native U.K., Welcome to the Pleasuredome was an enormous success, topping the albums chart and dominating the singles chart: “Relax,” “Two Tribes,” and “The Power of Love” all went to number 1, and the title track was just shy of topping the chart, peaking at number 2.
