On this day in music history…

In 1981, George Thorogood & The Destroyers embarked on their 50/50 Tour. For 50 straight days, they would play in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. with no days off. Thorogood and the band drove between all 49 shows within the continental U.S., only utilizing flights for their Hawaii and Alaska dates.

In 1996, Hootie & The Blowfish performed for a crowd of about 3,200 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale. The band had released their Fairweather Johnson album the previous April. The two-and-a-half hour concert concluded with three encores. They Might Be Giants was the opening act.
