On this day in music history…

In 1989, Billy Joel released his Storm Front album.  Produced by Mick Jones of Foreigner, it was Joel’s third album to top the chart, and his first to do so in nine years.  Five of the album’s singles landed on the singles chart, including “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” which hit number 1, and “I Go to Extremes,” which peaked at number 6.  Joel went on to be nominated for three Grammys at the 32nd Annual Grammy Awards.

In 1989, a new San Francisco band was supposed to meet for their first rehearsal in the evening, but the 6.9 magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake prevented them from getting together.  The band members were able to rehearse within the next day or so, and a few months later, they began playing the club circuit.  Three years later, 4 Non Blondes would release their only studio album.
