On this day in music history…
In 1972, after four years, seven albums, and nine top 10 hits, Creedence Clearwater Revival announced their disbandment. The break-up was brought on by multiple factors, most notably friction between the band members and disagreements with their record label. All of the former CCR members continued their careers in music.
In 1986, two concerts in celebration of Chuck Berry’s 60th birthday were held at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis. The shows featured numerous guests performing alongside Berry, including Julian Lennon, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Linda Ronstadt, and more. The concerts were recorded and footage was used for the documentary Hail! Hail! Rock ‘n’ Roll, which was released the following year.
