On this day in music history…

In 1972, Michael Jackson topped the singles chart for the first time in his solo career with “Ben,” the lead single from his album of the same name. He was 14 years old at the time. By the end of his career, he would have 13 number 1 hits to his name.

In 1983, Cyndi Lauper released her debut solo album, She’s So Unusual. The album peaked at number 4 on the chart. Four of the album’s songs went on to be top five singles: “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Time After Time,” “She Bop,” and “All Through the Night.”
