A traffic stop in rural Jefferson County ended with an arrest over the weekend.

Deputies say they pulled over a red Chevy truck on Illinois Highway 142 near Gothic Lane on Saturday.

During the stop, they found that a passenger — 53-year-old Boren Johnson of Mt. Vernon — was wanted in Franklin County for failing to appear on a drug charge.

Deputies say they also found illegal drugs inside the vehicle, which were seized as evidence.

Johnson was taken to the Jefferson County Jail, facing a new charge of possessing methamphetamine, along with the outstanding warrant.
