On this day in music history…

In 1962, The Beach Boys released their debut album, Surfin’ Safari. The album peaked at number 32 on the albums chart, and The Beach Boys scored their first hit with the title track, which charted at number 14. The group would release their second album about six months later.

In 1969, The Beatles released their 11th studio album, Abbey Road, in the U.S. It had been released in the U.K. a week earlier. The album went to number 1 in the U.S., the U.K., and numerous other countries. Although Abbey Road wasn’t the final Beatles album to be released, it was the last album to be recorded by the band.
