On this day in music history…

In 1996, Rush released their sixteenth studio album, titled Test For Echo, on the Anthem label. This was the last time Rush would work with producer Peter Collins, who had produced three of their previous albums. Test For Echo went on to peak at number five on the U.S. Albums chart and number three in Rush’s native Canada. The album was certified gold by the RIAA the following month.

In 2001, Michael Jackson’s second of two 30th anniversary concerts took place at Madison Square Garden. Jackson himself performed, and numerous other stars took the stage as well, with some singing their own songs and others paying tribute to Jackson by performing his songs. The anniversary concerts left Jackson sleep-deprived—so much so that he slept through his appointments the following day, including a meeting that he was supposed to attend in the Twin Towers.
