Deadly crash in Saline County leads to a second crash involving Illinois State Police

Saline County, Ill. (WJPF) – A deadly crash in Saline County led to a secondary crash involving Illinois State Police.

The first accident occurred on IL-34 one mile west of Harco Road just before 2am August 8. Two people were airlifted to a regional hospital, and one person, Mattix Sandifer of Gallatin County, was pronounced dead on scene. 

The second accident occurred a little after 5am, when the squad car of two ISP troopers was struck while they were on scene of the fatal crash. 

The driver was identified as 66 year old Sandra Kahl of Thompsonville.

Both troopers were outside of their squad cars at the time of the crash and were uninjured.

Kahl was cited for Move Over Law violations and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
