On this day in music history…
In 1980, the Eagles played a concert in Long Beach, California. The show was a fundraiser for Sen. Alan Cranston’s re-election campaign. Glenn Frey and Don Felder were at each other’s throats throughout the show, trading threats on stage and preparing to fight each other after the performance. This was the Eagles’ last concert until their reunion 14 years later.
In 1992, Mojo Nixon & The Toadliquors were performing at the Hole in the Wall in Austin, Texas. Nixon was told before the show that Don Henley might make an appearance at the club that night. To Nixon’s surprise, Henley not only showed up—he also joined Nixon and the band on stage to perform Nixon’s song “Don Henley Must Die,” which he’d released a couple years earlier.
