On this day in music history…
In 1972, Pink Floyd released their seventh studio album, titled Obscured by Clouds. The album’s songs were written for the French film La Valée. Obscured by Clouds charted at No. 46 in the U.S. The album’s only single, “Free Four,” did not chart in the U.S. or the U.K.
In 1987, Whitney Houston released her second studio album, titled Whitney. Her self-titled debut album had three No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 two years earlier. Her second album beat that with four No. 1 hits—“I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me),” “Didn’t We Almost Have It All,” “So Emotional,” and “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” each peaked at the top spot. This made Houston the first female artist to have four chart-topping singles from one album.
