CARMI, Ill. (WJPF) – A false threat of school violence placed by an intoxicated teenager caused class to be cancelled at Carmi-White County schools.

Carmi Police say a 16-year-old made the threat around 3:00 am Tuesday through Safe 2 Help Illinois, a statewide service where students can share school safety issues anonymously.

Within a few hours, police tracked down the source of the phony threat, but by that time, school had already been canceled for Tuesday, out of an abundance of caution.

Graduation ceremonies planned for Tuesday night went off without issue. The case is being referred to the White County State’s Attorney’s Office for possible criminal charges against the teenager.
