GRAND TOWER, Ill. (WJPF) – Two people were killed in an industrial accident Monday in Grand Tower.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says it happened at about 4:50 p.m. at the Kinder Morgan natural gas pipeline construction site. Workers are burying an existing pipeline under the Mississippi River. Currently, natural gas is carried across the river through a pipeline suspended over the water.

Two people died at the scene. Two more were taken to area hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and later released.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released, pending family notification.
