CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – A Sparta man has been arrested after fleeing from police in Carbondale.

On May 3 around 2:30am an officer saw a male with a firearm in his waistband inside a business in the 700 block of East Grand Avenue. When the officer tried to approach, the male fled.

After a brief foot chase, the male identified as 21 year old Demarion Williams of Sparta, was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm without lawful authority.

Williams was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Resisting a Peace Officer.

He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
