On this day in music history…
In 1972, Ike & Tina Turner performed for a crowd of nearly 3,300 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. Concertgoers paid between $3.50 and $5 per ticket. Their ‘Nuff Said album had come out back in November, and the title song from their forthcoming album Feel Good came out a few weeks prior, the album would be released that July.
In 1985, Wham! performed at the Workers’ Gymnasium in Beijing, making them the first Western act to perform in China. Authorities warned spectators that dancing would not be tolerated during the show, and some attendees were removed from the premises for disregarding the order.
