On this day in music history…
In 1974, The J. Geils Band performed for a crowd of over 4,200 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. The set list included four songs from the band’s latest album, Ladies Invited, which had been released five months earlier. Smooch was the opening act.
In 1978, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils and Pure Prairie League performed for a crowd of over 4,600 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. The Daredevils were recording a run of concerts for a live album, and they used the Enactron Truck (Brian Ahern’s mobile recording studio) to record the Carbondale show. Later that year, the band released their first live album, It’s Alive, but none of the recordings from the Carbondale concert were featured.
