A longtime Carbondale scouting leader is being recognized with one of the organization’s highest honors.
Brian Gorecki of Troop 7066 will receive the Silver Beaver Award from the Greater St. Louis Area Council, an honor given to adult leaders for distinguished service to youth. The award will be presented during a ceremony later this spring in St. Louis.
Gorecki has been involved in scouting for more than 17 years and currently serves as the troop’s committee chair. Over the years, he has held multiple leadership roles and remained active in weekly meetings, camping trips, and service projects.
A former Eagle Scout, Gorecki has also contributed at the district level, serving as the Big Muddy Scouting for Food chair, participating on the Eagle Board of Review, and working as a member-at-large on the district committee.
He has received several recognitions for his service, including Commissioner of the Year in 2014 and 2018, the District Award of Merit in 2020, Committee Member of the Year in 2023, and the Big Muddy District’s “Going the Distance” Award in 2024.
