On this day in music history…

In 1968, Otis Redding topped the Billboard Hot 100 with “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.” Redding was the first artist to score a number 1 hit posthumously; he had been killed in a plane crash just three months earlier.
 

 
In 1979, Supertramp released their sixth studio album, Breakfast in America. The album went on to top the albums chart in the U.S. and peak at number 3 in the band’s native U.K. Eight months after its release, Breakfast in America was certified Platinum by the RIAA.
