On this day in music history…

In 1965, guitarist Eric Clapton parted ways with The Yardbirds. The band then hired Jeff Beck to replace Clapton on guitar. The following year, The Yardbirds also added guitarist Jimmy Page to the lineup.

In 1976, The Four Seasons topped the singles chart with “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night).” This would be the fifth and final number 1 hit for the group. Unlike previous Four Seasons hits, the song featured drummer Gerry Polci on lead vocals, Frankie Valli singing the bridge and backing vocals, and bassist Don Ciccone singing the falsetto parts. Valli would reach the top of the singles chart once more as a solo artist with “Grease” a couple years later.
