The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says it is conducting a criminal investigation involving a faculty member at Carterville Community Unit School District Number 5.

Authorities say the investigation stems from a lead provided by the FBI and includes allegations of sexual abuse involving a former student.

The employee has been placed on administrative leave due to continued contact with students.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has been notified, and investigators say there is a possibility additional victims may exist.
