On this day in music history…

In 2003, Jack Russell’s Great White was playing a show at The Station, a nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island. During the opening song, the band’s tour manager set off pyrotechnics that ignited the insulation foam on the walls and the ceiling. Within six minutes, the entire building was engulfed in flames. A total of 100 people (including guitarist Ty Longley) died as a result of the incident, and 230 people were injured. Station Fire Memorial Park is now located where the nightclub once stood.

In 2009, The White Stripes performed for the first time in over a year on the last episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien. The duo performed “We’re Going to Be Friends.” This turned out to be the final live performance by The White Stripes. A couple years later, they confirmed their breakup.
