On this day in music history…
 
In 1966, The Rolling Stones appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show for the third time. The band played “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “As Tears Go By,” and “19th Nervous Breakdown.” The Stones would perform on Ed Sullivan three more times for a grand total of six appearances.
 

 
 
In 1970, on Friday the 13th, Black Sabbath released their groundbreaking self-titled debut album. Despite negative reviews from critics, the album charted at number 23 in the U.S. and number 8 in the band’s native U.K. Retrospectively, Black Sabbath is often cited as one of the greatest metal albums of all time.
