On this day in music history…

In 1987, the Paul Schrader film Light of Day was released in theaters. Starring Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett, the movie is about a brother and sister who have their own rock band called The Barbusters. Bruce Springsteen wrote the film’s theme song, which peaked at number 33 on the singles chart. The music video of Fox and Jett received regular airplay on MTV.

In 1990, Billy Idol was riding his motorcycle home after a day in the studio in Los Angeles. Idol ran a stop sign and was hit by a car. He was seriously injured and at risk of losing his leg. Idol ended up being able to keep his leg, but not without having a steel rod inserted. His injuries cost him the role of T-1000 in James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, with the role going to Robert Patrick instead.
