Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting in Charleston late Friday night.

Charleston Police say they received multiple calls around 10:30 reporting gunshots near South Locust and South Green Streets.

When officers arrived, they found a vehicle that had crashed into a fence behind a home in the 300 block of South Franklin Street.

Inside the vehicle, police discovered a man who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Tristen Mackins of Mounds, Illinois.

Investigators say the vehicle was traveling east on West Cypress Street when someone opened fire. The driver lost control, left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and then crashed into the fence.

Police believe this homicide may be connected to at least two recent violent incidents in Charleston , including a homicide earlier this month and a separate shooting that injured two people early Friday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
