One person has died following a house fire in Mt. Vernon Sunday night.

Mt. Vernon firefighters were called to the scene at 8:29 p.m. in the 900 block of Pace Avenue. Crews arrived to find a single-story home on fire, with flames visible at the front of the house and the front porch.

Mutual aid from the Jefferson County Fire Protection District responded to assist.

Search teams from both departments entered the home and located a man inside. The Jefferson County Coroner was called to the scene, and the man was later pronounced dead.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
